How the Black Capped Chickadee became a mascot for M & M's...

In most states, when firemen take their fire trucks out on the road, they always have a Dalmatian dog on the truck with them.

In the world of M and M’s –when THEY take out their fire trucks – they always have a Black Capped-Chickadee Bird with them!

This is the story of how that came about.

*
One day, the M and M guys were driving along in their fire truck.

The red M and M was at the wheel.

Suddenly, the truck lurched and came to a dead stop when it hit some rocks.

A bird up in a tree heard the crash and flew down to see if he could help.

After several minutes of debate, the kind little bird came up with a plan and was able to move the largest bolder out of the way.

The yellow M and M riding on the back of the fire truck, thought the little bird was simply AMAZING and asked the bird if it would like to go for a ride on the truck!

The little bird said "I'd LOVE to ride on your firetruck! But...What I'd REALLY like is to ride in the back with you!"

When the little bird flew down next to the yellow M and M he asked, "Is there some type of handle for me to hold on to?".

The yellow M and M told the little bird to just hold on to the side of the truck and he would be just fine.

And THAT is how the Black Capped Chickadee bird became THE official firetruck bird for the M and M's fire department!
