'Panning for Bird Seed' - Adult Bird Education Classes

"Alright class, I hope most of you brought your own strainers.  For those of you who can't afford a strainer I have provided some extra's for you.

Chickadees, sparrows, finches and nuthatches will all use the small strainers. Doves, blue-jays and cardinals will use the larger size.

Here's how it works...Each of you will take your strainer out in the yard and with your beak you will pick up anything that remotely looks edible and place it in your strainer. When you see that your strainer is full; at that time you will work in teams.  Two birds per strainer. Each of you is to place your beak on the handles of the strainer and work as a team shaking the strainer until all bad used seeds are filtered out.

Any edible good seed i.e. food left in the strainer can be brought home to your families.  This process is called Panning for Bird Seed.

Ok birdies...grab your strainers and let's get started! Good luck!"
